Ronaldo reaches 100m Facebook fans

Former Manchester United winger, Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first athlete to reach 100 million Facebook fans.

Not only has Ronaldo becomes the first athlete to reach 100 million Facebook fans, he also sits at the top of the top ten highest ranking sports clubs, players, leagues, tournaments and  franchises on Facebook. The 29-year-old has over 23 million more fans than FC Barcelona. They sit second in the top ten list with 77 million fans.

Ronaldo currently gets 54 new fans per minute on Facebook, which is almost a staggering one fan every second.

Ronaldo posted a video on his Facebook page thanking his fans for the milestone. He said: “I’m so honoured to have reached 100 million likes on Facebook. It’s amazing to achieve this incredible milestone and connecting with all the fans around the world. Their outstanding support inspires me and I thank them all.”

Not only on Facebook is Ronaldo leading the way, on Twitter he is the most followed professional athlete with over 30.4 million followers. In second place it’s the Brazilian footballer, Kaka with 21 million followers. The third most popular sports profile on Twitter is NBA Basketball player; LeBron James. He has 15.4 million followers – 15 million less than Ronaldo.

The most popular Twitter day for Cristiano Ronaldo was on the 13th January 2014, the day he won one of the most prestigious awards, the Ballon D’Or. On that day, Ronaldo received over 118,000 retweets and the total engagement was an exaggerating 1.04 million.
